Willows Preparatory School (WPS) is the culmination of a visionary journey that began with Bellevue Children’s Academy (BCA). Founded by Yuka Shimizu, BCA started as an afterschool learning center and evolved into a full-fledged day school in 2000, renowned for its innovative curriculum and commitment to academic excellence.
Recognizing the need for a continuum in quality education beyond elementary levels, Shimizu established Willows Preparatory School in 2014. Located on a picturesque 15-acre campus in Redmond, WPS was conceived to extend the BCA philosophy into middle and high school education, fostering intellectual curiosity and global awareness.
Inception and Growth as BCA
(1992-1999)
BCA’s journey began in 1992 as an afterschool program, emphasizing a unique curriculum that combined traditional academics with innovative teaching methods. By 2000, it had transformed into a full-day school, eventually expanding to multiple campuses in Bellevue, serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8.
Relocation and
Transformation (2014)
In 2014, the middle school division of BCA transitioned to the newly acquired Redmond campus, marking the birth of Willows Preparatory School. This move signified a commitment to providing a seamless educational experience from early childhood through high school, rooted in the same values that defined BCA.
International Baccalaureate®
(IB) Accreditation
WPS’s dedication to a globally recognized education led to its accreditation as an International Baccalaureate World School. Offering both the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme, WPS empowers students to become critical thinkers and compassionate leaders on an international stage.
Expansion
to High School
Responding to the aspirations of its community, WPS expanded to include a high school division in 2019. This expansion introduced state-of-the-art facilities, including a green-certified building equipped with advanced science labs and immersive learning environments, reflecting WPS’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Joining the
International Schools Partnership
In 2019, WPS joined the International Schools Partnership (ISP), aligning with a global network dedicated to educational excellence. This partnership enhances opportunities for students, providing access to international collaborations and a broader perspective on learning.
